Past Events - Memorial Unveiling and
Re-enactment of Elizabeth Vine's Last Ride

On Saturday 31 October 2009 a large group of extended family and friends of Peter Norvill came to together at Warland Creek on "Rock Dhu" to dedicate a memorial and witness a re-enactment of the tragedy surrounding the accidental drowning of Elizabeth Vine (nee Hibbs) in 1904.

Elizabeth Vine had been returning to her father's place (Mr J Hibbs) located just behind Wallabadah Rock. She had spent the previous evening with David Charles Norvill (her brother-in-law and his family) and on 8th July 1904 in rainy weather she set off in his company.

Following the heavy rain the Warland Creek was up and Elizabeth appears to have fallen from her mount as she tried to make the crossing. She was washed away in the torrent and drowned leaving behind her husband, Mr James Vine and four children.
